Every time I do a family photo session in Abilene, Texas, I am blessed with something new and unexpected, in the very best way.
Comparing West Texas scenery to Colorado just isn't possible. My friends, family, and clients in Abilene know that compared to here in Colorado Springs, options are limited as far as interesting or beautiful backgrounds go. However, Texas has constantly surprised me in the very best way each visit with something new and different! Last year, it was the incredible wildflowers. The summer before that, it was the stunning, colorful sunsets and sunrises. Visiting Texas in February, my expectations were low - it was still winter, too early for wildflowers, and who knew what the temperatures would be like?! However, when we showed up at Abilene Christian University for the Browns' annual family photo session, we were greeted with beautiful pink blossoms covering the trees surrounding the incredible Jacob's Ladder sculpture. I've done sessions at the sculpture before, and they are always stunning - but the blossoms added a unique splash of color unlike anything I've photographed here before! And to boot, Becky's dress matched these blossoms PERFECTLY! She generously donated this dress to the EGP Client closet and it'll be SUCH a great addition - long enough to be warm in the cooler months, and light and breezy fabric to be comfortable when it's warm out!
Becky did a fantastic job styling her family for this spring session. With or without those gorgeous blossoms, her family's light and neutral shades of clothing stand out so nicely against Jacob's ladder - these colors are timeless and match pretty much any background which is why I so strongly recommend them! I've photographed the Brown family many times - such a blessing to continue documenting their family's growth and story! - and each time, Becky works with me to plan her family's outfits, down to the details such as shoes and jewelry. She trusts me to affirm her choices or make suggestions, and over time her developed her own eye for styling and is getting quite good at it! Even though Abilene is her home now and I live in Colorado, she has listened to my thoughts about locations in her area and is willing to try new things with me. Her trust in me makes her family sessions so relaxed and enjoyable! All the details are ironed out before the session begins (and she always has backup outfits ready for her little guys, just in case!) and she knows I'll go to any length to help her boys have a good time so we can capture moments that reflect who they are right now - because we both know they will be quite different the next time we see each other and take photos. <3
I absolutely love traveling to Texas (and other places!) and photographing people where they live! I am so honored that Becky has trusted me with her family memories since they lived in Colorado, and even still now that they live in Texas. Becky, it's a true delight watching your family grow, your boys grow, and the beautiful life and people the Lord has blessed you with and built around you. I so look forward to seeing y'all again on our next visit and can't wait to see what God has in store for your family in the future!
