The perfect time for your Colorado Springs photo session is when nature wakes up after a long winter's sleep and erupts in a glorious fury of color.
Let's be real, the beginning of Spring in Colorado is just gross. Everything is still brown, and when it snows, it melts quickly because it's warmer, and then everything is muddy. But when the latter half of spring arrives, when the trees have leafed out and the flowers are coming back in, my photographer heart just sings as I am once again surrounded by a world of color. Emily gushed right along with me when we met up for her session at Blodgett Open Space. Like me, she was in awe of the stunning array of color created by the newly-green grass and trees, the wildflowers beginning to peek through, and the glorious sunset light!
Emily and her handsome men showed up dressed first in outfits that represent who they are on a more daily basis and we had fun posing in those outfits before Emily switched everyone over to a more dressy look! She values thr memories of what they look like each day at this stage in their lives, but she also values having photos on her wall that are more truly art, so she chose wonderfully coordinating outfits and colors and with assistance from me matched patterns and textures along with colors and styles. We had fun putting these outfits together for her whole family!
I was particularly surprised at how well Emily's teenage sons did. They made it clear that photos were not something they enjoy, but they were SO kind and cooperative! I totally understand that and always do my best to make it as fun as possible for the guys. Aden and Noah are such gentlemen and we got some laughter from them and the genuine smiles that go with, as well as some of their preferred more "serious" faces and they did absolutely amazing! I helped coach Emily and John through their insecurities and they enjoyed their time together which clearly shows in the photos! This family has been through SO much in the past few years, from Emily surviving a cancer diagnosis and going into remission, to john's medical school in another state - they currently live separately while he finishes school, so their teen boys can complete high school without moving. What a sacrifice they have made to keep their boys happy and healthy. They visit whenever they can and soak in the time. I can tell these experiences have strengthened this sweet family, drawing them closer to each other because they allow their love to flourish in the time they are together rather than let their distance tear them apart.
Emily, I'm so glad you asked me to document some memories together for your family while you're enjoying one of your rare trips together. One day you all will look back on these photos and be even more thankful for your time together and the love you all share, and remember fondly how your love got you through these tough times. Keep holding strong together and the time apart will fly by!!! I'm rooting for you guys!!!
