As a family photographer who has been doing portrait sessions in the Colorado area for a number of years now, finding a new location is a real treat!
I've known about Rampart Park for years, and never really had a request for it or a good reason to try this spot. But when it came time for the Anderson family's annual photos, and they wanted to stay closer to home to ensure their daughter got to bed on time, I knew this was the perfect time! And when we showed up to find a field full of late-summer yellow wildflowers, we knew we were in for an incredible evening. Not least of all considering that in the hours leading up to this session, we weren't quite sure it was going to happen. Reschedules are rare for me, but this was attempt number FOUR! We rescheduled due to excessive heat, wildfire smoke (obscuring the mountains makes this location almost pointless), heavy rain... and we were looking at rain AGAIN this evening. But the storms passed and the skies cleared in the nick of time, as almost always happens. And with the passing storm clouds, the sky was alight with even more color, creating a truly magical backdrop for this year's photos!
Sometimes, doing portraits with the same family year after year can be a bit challenging - I don't want every year's photos to look exactly the same! This is part of why I lean into candid moments as much as possible - both what happens organically, and gently coaching families into moments that are unique and have the look and feel of a truly natural moment. The Andersons make that easy! Cam's goofy sense of humor always brings about laughter from his wife and daughter. Everly is always full of energy and spunk, and being a young girl pretty much never stops moving. :) There's always a new moment to capture! And Laura is there as a calming presence for her family, rooting everyone together and down to earth, at least for a few moments.
Laura and Everly wore dresses from the EGP Client Wardrobe again this year, and we were in LOVE with the blues and whites! Laura's flowing white dress with tiny blue florals, vintage-inspired buttons, and perfectly cinches sleeves and empire waist was not only comfortable, but flattering and absolutely timeless. It was the perfect contrast to the surrounding yellow flowers, and the perfect complement to the blue hues of the softening sky and mountains looming behind us. Everly's dress I specifically added to the closet because of its adorable vintage look, and the solid periwinkle blue was the perfect complement to Laura's dress, as was the swiss dot texture. Laura styled Cam to match perfectly, as always!
Photographing this family is always a delight, and I'm truly honored to be able to tell their family story year after year. These are memories they will all treasure always! Thank you, Laura, for trusting me with your precious memories. It's such a joy knowing you all!
