The golden glow of the setting sun that broke through the cloudy evening illuminated a most beautiful sight.
Ellen, Justin, and their three children - all under the age of three - gathered together dressed to the nines to celebrate their latest addition - baby Joy, 5 weeks old at the time. As this happy, sweet family played together on a mild winter's evening, one would never guess that a few weeks ago, right after the birth of her daughter, Ellen had been back in the hospital fighting for her life. After a smooth and successful home birth, Ellen developed a uterine infection that was more dangerous than she realized as she was enduring the severe pain that landed her in the hospital for a few days, separated temporarily from her two nursing littles. Thankfully, Ellen and her family are supported by a strong community of family and friends and she had faith that God would allow her body to be healed. While she missed her son's first steps back home during her time in the hospital, Ellen was so grateful to have her health restored and return home to her family. So this photo session felt like an extra celebration - not only of the new life joining this precious family, but of Ellen's restored life as well.
This mama is strong and gentle. She exhibits all the qualities I wish I had had when I was her age. We met through MOPS (and if you're a mama of littles I highly suggest finding a MOPS group!) and she has become like a little sister to me. She has been blessed with wisdom beyond her years, an enduring patience for the little people in her care, and a tenderness that ensures her children and all those who surround her in life feel her warmth and love. When I think of the Proverbs 31 woman, I think of Ellen. She is fiercely devoted to her Lord, her family, and her friends, and is moving through this season of young motherhood with unmatched grace.
Ellen & Justin, I'm so happy for y'all! What a beautiful family you have built! I'm so honored I get to know you all, love on your littles and have them play with mine, snuggle your baby, and bond over our shared views and experiences with parenting. Photographing your family was truly special to me and I'm excited to watch you all grow over the years!
