I will never get tired of doing fall family sessions in the mountains, especially in the fall. The magical changing of the aspens, their brilliant yellow and occasional reds and oranges, is somehow cathartic, and thankfully they can be found not too far from Colorado Springs, in and around the towns of Woodland Park, Divide, and Cripple Creek.
I have known the Evans family for years. Chase was in my middle school band class for a few years, and after I started my photography business his mom, Nicole, started coming to me annually for mini sessions! Minis didn't work out this year, so we headed to the mountains for an autumn adventure since Nicole had been wanting to do a different season this year than the usual Christmasy holiday photos. And did we have an adventure! We knew that storm clouds were heading into the area, and our session started with some blue sky between the clouds, but the thunder rumbled increasingly as our session went on and we scrambled to grab just a few more photos on the path before dashing for our cars! I'm so grateful that after making the trek up to Divide, our session didn't get rained out!
I always have a blast posing this family and watching them connect with each other. I know when I pose Kennedy with her dad, there's going to be lots of laughter! And even though Chase is a teen guy, he's so good to his mama and lets her love on him for their photos together, which Nicole asks for every year - photos of each parent with both kids, together and individually. I respect her so much for her commitment to preserve these memories year after year and ensure she never forgets - especially with both of her kids being teens in high school and the final years ticking away. Nicole and Randall have raised such kind and thoughtful teens. Chase & Kennedy even cooperate for their sibling photos with such grace and patience. :D
Nicole - I'm truly honored that you come back to me year after year to ensure your memories with your children and family are preserved. Every year is a new adventure and I love every minute. I can't believe we'll be celebrating Chase's senior year next year! Soak up every sweet second, mama!
